There's a place right across town, whenever you're ready
Here's a news story as old as dirt: The animal rights advocates are still trying to get OHSU to shut down its monkey experiment operation out in Hillsboro. This fight goes way, way back. Twenty years ago, a group was calling for a boycott of OHSU over the issue. Now the critics are trying to use the pending takeover of the Legacy Health system as some sort of a wedge.
And of course, in recent decades it's become pretty clear that our illustrious med school doesn't do all that well with homo sapiens, either. Pity the poor primates.
There are several obvious benefits to doing close-species testing, but only for specific types of inflictions like brain disease. I know a former researcher doing Parkinson's animal testing of which several important studies resulted. But he is not a fan of widespread animal research just because you can. OHSU seems to be a publicly funded medical center searching for a purpose to exist. I am more concerned with their human mutilation operations on confused and vulnerable children using the sick euphemism of "gender affirming care"
ReplyDeleteGo by Tram ! Boy that takes me back! What was supposed to be a $20 million boondoggle turned into a $65 million fiasco! Iconic! The cars are designer-handcrafted to look like clouds. But don't worry they have a spare if one breaks.
ReplyDeleteIt's about time for some expensive renovations, I'm sure.
