Is Billy Bob coming back?
The U.S. attorney for Oregon, Natalie Wight, got her walking papers this week. It happens whenever the White House changes hands between political parties, but this time Mudface Caligula is making a big deal out of how he fired those no-good radical-left blah blah blah. So far, I haven't seen any word on where Wight, a former Cleveland High School Rose Festival princess, will be working next.
A bigger question, though, is who will be the next U.S. attorney. Will it be a reprise for Billy Williams, who so staunchly defended the jackboot thugs who tear-gassed the Portland soccer moms in 2020? When last heard from, he was filling out timesheets in private practce in Bend.
Usually the U.S. attorney nominees have to be approved by the senior senator from the state. But I'm not sure those rules apply now that we're part of the New Russian Empire.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'd be happier if Mudface didn't exist. But as long as we have to suffer through his reign of terrifying stupidity, I'd love to see him bust the Oregon politicians' chops with his next U.S. attorney appointment. Wouldn't it be something if he installed someone who would spend four years rooting out corruption and waste in state and local government around here?
I remember the true blue cities of northern New Jersey in the early '70s. Nixon put in a U.S. attorney who threw a bunch of local machine politicians into federal prison. It was easy pickin's, too. I'd eat a lot of popcorn watching something like that happen here. Maybe send some construction toughs and nonprofit executive directors to Lompoc, too, along with their "public-private partners."
One can hope.
21st century Oregon politics and mid-century NJ are pretty different critters. While there may very well be improper influence and there's certainly plenty of dumb programs in Oregon that waste a lot of taxpyaer money, I'd be surprised if there is any like ABSCAM.
ReplyDeleteSpoken like a true Oregonian. Naive in the extreme. There is no exception to human nature. La Mota, the Wyden-Bankman campaign contributions, the OLCC warehouse scam, all the hanky panky at the state “energy” department, one sleazebag after another traipsing through OHSU, and those are just the obvious. It’s a dirty little place and the muck runs deep. Only a Republican U.S. attorney could clean it up.
DeleteWill Lathrop fits the bill.
DeleteJosh Marquis could be a great governor. That probably toasts your biscuits Jack, lol. A true Oregonian, naive to the extreme. East coasters sure love to have illegal alien convicted sexual predators feign their age and try and enroll at Albany High School, three weeks ago?
DeleteI wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the Fed DOJ was nosing around the area without looking for help from the local state people.
ReplyDelete“Only a Republican U S Attorney could clean it up”…….understanding JB deeply despises all things Republican, this admission feels wild to regular readers. Of course the new US Attorney will be an R…….here’s hoping our local professor will consider not hating on just this 1 Republican if they do a good job.
ReplyDeleteI'm right with The Professor in believing only a Republican can clean this up. The trouble is Oregon Republicans have a really tough time reading the room. It's not woke and DEI that's the problem. Jack pointed out five specific scandals that deserve investigation. Those are only the ones we know about. This Democrat would welcome a serious investigation.
DeleteDennis Richardson had Portland Schools on the ROPES before he had to give up the gig. That dude, despite spending his career yelling at teh gayz, played the job straight down the middle. It'd be nice if the new guy would as well.
I don't have much hope.
The amount of money blown on so many "projects" that produce near zero results has a close to 100% chance there is graft and malfeasance. The deals made with developers for "low cost" housing has fixed nothing but made developers very rich. The homelessness cash has made things worse while being a springboard for getting elected to office. It would be nice to get to the bottom of the Franke case- cause I'm sure that racket is still going on, maybe much worse with the cartel's influence getting larger.
ReplyDeleteIf someone actually followed the money, we’d ……. Oh, never mind. I keep forgetting how politics works in Oregon.
DeleteI don't think messing with white-collar criminals is a big priority for these people. Making life miserable for people on the margins is more on brand. Rooting out the scourge of criminals who got too much in SNAP assistance, and don't have the money to pay it back, that kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteCruelty is the point....And tax cuts,
ReplyDeleteof course.
Department of Oregon Government Efficiency makes a much better acronym
