Not so fast

Well, the Kroger-Safeway-Albertson's deal is off, at least for now. Judge Adrienne Nelson on the federal district court here in Portland and Judge Marshall Ferguson on the King County Superior Court in Seattle both issued rulings today blocking as anti-competitive the proposed combination of the grocery giants.

Of course, nobody knows what will happen six weeks from now, when Orange Caligula assumes the golden throne once again. But for now, it's a small bit of good news for consumers. Yes, they still have a choice as to where to purchase their $7.49 party size bag of Doritos.

  1. The Safeway store near me gave up and closed a while ago. The nearby Albertson’s doesn’t do much business. The parking lots of the nearby New Seasons and Fred Meyer are always full. There’s a story in those issues that the unions don’t discuss very much.

    1. It always goes back to the unions with you people. Why is that? Kroger is represented by the same union.

    3. I saw you in Trader Joe’s the other week. I wanted to say hi, but you looked upset. I’m guessing you missed the variety at Fred Meyer

    4. Nah... I expect he was wishing he'd gone to Grocery Outlet, instead. Sometimes distance from the outlet is the deciding factor and when you get there, you wished you'd spent the time to go the distance.

And... Remember, Elaine Chao is still on the board at Kroger. End the reign of Chaos!

  2. OC actually said today that it will be very hard to reduce grocery costs. Let the price gouging resume!

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
