The doctor is out

Another disaster for Portland: The Portland Clinic, which has been downtown for 103 years and in the same building at Southwest 12th and Yamhill for the last 50, is moving all its patient care out of that headquarters because the neighborhood is too dangerous. Patient actvity will be shifted to other locations, such as Beaverton, Tigard, and 50th & Sandy.

As I recall, the docs had been complaining about the tents, the drugs, and the street crime for years. I guess they've reached the end of their rope trying to get help from City Hall. And that's under Wheeler, Gonzalez, and Mapps. One can only imagine how much worse things are going to get down there after the new City Council Socialist Book Club gets its hands on the reins. "Until we destroy capitalism, there will be no medicine!"

You wonder where the Oregon Health Authority is in all this. That outfit never seems to be around when you need it.

But hey, look over there, the ice skating rink is back! It's all going to be fine. Really.

  1. Everyone knows that area becomes a massive open air drug market every night. Why aren't the police there every single night arresting the dealers, and doing the "deflection" thing with every single user. So what if the jail cells have to be double-bunked. Do this until some other place suffers this nightly occurrence. Oh, yeah, then the police would be targeting, or is it profiling, the miscreants. Smdh.

  2. The snow flakes have hobbled law enforcement in Portland. Now they’re bitching about the lack of civility in the community.

    1. It's going to get worse soon with Angelita & the Socialists. Dopey Portland voters deserve what they get.

    3. who gives a hoot about voters, taxpayers [rich upper class and predominatly white] will shoulder all of this and complain about Trump to boot.

  3. We already have socialism, mate. It's been back-doored by thirty years of a progressive machine that basically believes that what's yours is theirs. Why are we surprised by any of this?

    1. For what its worth - socialist economies usually provide better care for their most suffering people with true public health and more plentiful housing. I don't think it's actual socialists you are worried about. Project 2025 does have a strategy here: federal strongmen on the streets of Blue cities keeping local law and order. Homelessness is a Housing problem - pretty well-researched: https://homelessnesshousingproblem.com/

    2. Do we have socialism? The stock market is at an all-time high. Income inequality is at an all-time high. Drug abuse and overdose deaths are at all-time highs. The national debt is at an all-time high. Teen suicide rate is at an all-time high. Which part of that sounds like socialism vs. rampant, corrupt corporatism?

  4. Fully defund the police, take the inaction out of the equation. Keep voting Trump.

  5. Up until last week I was working in the Pearl. Working from home now as they are closing the office. Not going to miss wondering if I should stop and check if somebody is still alive as I head for the bus. Not going to miss random piles of trash, smashed glass from car thefts, or never ending tent removals that last about a week. I'm guessing that the new council will have a hard time even acknowledging that there is a crisis.

    1. The Oregon Health Authority, you ask? Can't be bothered, they are busy getting into the affordable housing business.

  7. Bad news that will only grow worse as the surrounding restaurants and shops see sales declines and likely close as well. Nothing will change until possession of fentanyl or meth is a felony again. Users need coercion and removal from the druggie bubble to quit and dealers need to be separated from the community for lengthy periods. We know this.

  8. There is some missing reality in this.
For many years every elected and appointed position is occupied by a Democrat. Long ago Portland and Multnomah Democrats achieved what they lust for nationally. The abolition of all Republican participation.
The entirety of this one party control is absolute.
Not that that is to blame for any of the problems. Lots of cities have similar problems.
And progress is being made. :/ I'm sorry if this is taken in less than the spirit of kindness intended.

  9. New Avenues for Youth, one of the big non profit grifters is nearby. Big attractor for the drug dealers.
