Party people on my porch say yeah

I missed it, but apparently someone from the Multnomah County Democratic Party stopped by the house and dropped off a card.

Of course, it lists the Democratic candidates – all of whom I will vote for, because the party led by the two nefarious monsters Trump and Vance doesn't deserve any votes for anything, ever. But more interesting was the flip side of the card.

Looks like they're against rank choice voting (117) and the insane free money tax (118), but they're being coy about it.

I'm voting no on all of the ballot measures. I wrote about impeachment here. The "independent commission" deal is a nonstarter, in light of what the Portland city charter commission did, including what it set up regarding politician salaries. And unionizing the weed shops couldn't matter less to me. When in doubt, I vote No, and I recommend that everyone do the same.

  1. I’m voting no on allowing cannabis shop employees to unionize. The price of weed has been relatively stable since it was legalized. If cannabis shop employees unionize the cost of their higher wages will only be passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices. Not every job needs to pay wages for a family to live on. It’s kind of like fast food. When I was a teenager a job at a fast food place was geared towards teenagers as a part time job to earn some money and learn responsibility. Now it’s expected that an adult can work at McDonalds and make enough to raise a family.

    1. Are teenagers allowed to work cannabis shops? I don't think so. Those are adults and they deserve to make a decent living. Everyone should have a union! Even teenagers. It's not just about money either. It's also about safety, reasonable schedules, and much more.

  2. Another point about the weed measure. Should orange Caligula lose, and the dems hold on to at least the senate, I wouldn't be surprised to see pot essentially legalized, meaning ost all of the limitations would go away.

    1. Trump isn’t going to lose. I’m afraid it’s going to be a landslide.

    2. Don’t know about the landslide thing. But, it’ll be over before the polls close in Portland.

  3. I’m surprised you’re not considering Will Lathrop for attorney general. He seems much less slippery than Dan Rayfield.

    1. Will Lathrop was a terrible prosecutor, routinely reversed on appeal for his dumb antics. He's also a right-wing, anti-abortion zealot. They don't come any more extremist than this dude.

  4. The ranked choice measure (117) is BS. Why? The same legislators who voted to put this on the ballot exempted themselves- no ranked choice for state legislators if this passes. Pure hypocrisy.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
