On the slant

Alex Z. of OPB today sorts through the many bobbleheads running for Portland mayor, here. To me it looks like there are five who have a chance. There are only two I'm ranking: Gonzalez first, Wilson second. But if you want to see the whole crop, OPB has its take.

It's interesting how Zielinski, a former kid at the Merc, chose the order of the candidates in her profiles. She indicates that it was done "by their background, public support and financial standing as of Oct. 1." And golly, Carmen Rubio goes first. Where we read, "Far from a radical leftist, Rubio’s liberal politics have made her the most progressive candidate on Portland City Council." Meanwhile, Gonzalez is "leaning on traditional 'tough on crime' policies and big business talking points." And Wilson is just another Ted Wheeler – Wheeler is mentioned in the lede.

Hear those whistles, doggies? Merc-y, Merc-y me.

  2. Portland may as well roll up the sidewalks and turn off the lights if Rubio is elected Mayor. She is a terrible city commissioner, and would be an even worse mayor. She is an absolutely vile and out of touch person.

    1. Self-centered and not too bright. Brought to us by the late Nick Fish. Maybe she can be the next Multnomah County chair.

    2. It’s easy to be self centered when you’re not really bright and your put into a position of power.

    3. Nick Fish has been sainted by the local media but he played a big part in the downfall of Portland. He pushed hard for the tax that paid for the large homeless building next to Union Station. That was going to solve our problems. He also refused to allow a San Antonio-style shelter facility on the industrial riverfront, instead insisting that the area be leased for off loading new cars. It seemed to me at the time that that was mistake.

    4. Nick Fish- another New York transplant using Portland as a litmus test for whacky what-ifs.

    5. Watch Rubio closely any time she has a sit-down interview. Nine times out of ten, she'll have a sheet of talking points that she'll read off of. She doesn't even try to hide it.

  4. This election cycle has a plethora of airheads taking childlike positions.

I'm truly puzzled by Portlanders asserting that the city is on the rebound.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
