The baseball folly, by the numbers

I howled in disbelief the other day at the proposition that someday there will be a major league baseball stadium in the South Waterfront district in Portland. The transportation problems alone are fatal.

But as usual, I just bleated out the obvious. Meanwhile, the author of the blog FidelityPDX compiled some interesting facts and figures that confirm that the site won't work. It's here, and well worth taking a look at.

  1. First off, it’s folly to assume 34k people are going to show up most days. 25k would be a good average attendance. Second, there’s literally a massive pedestrian bridge right there. Where will the parking garage go? OMSI, of course.

  2. It’s never going to happen.

    1. Forget the stadium for a minute (although that site is not feasible), who's going to take the chance on owning the team? Portland cannot support the NBA, MLB, MLS, NWSL, WNBA, etc. Too many expensive tickets to sell. Somehow Milwaukee, Wisconsin does both NBA and MLB, but I doubt Portland is up to the challenge. NFL would make more sense.

    1. 25k is delusional.
MLB might have worked for Portland in the late 40’s or early 50’s when baseball was THE SPORT. But, weird Portland runs away from anything conventional and will never support Major League Baseball team

    2. Not even Portland's most modern left wing nitwit Democrats can put together a case to add this farce to their heap of boondoggles.
However, the attempt does show there is zero recognition of any of their decades of incompetence and deceit failures. Heck, they are still rabidly moronic in pushing more light rail to Vancouver and Tigard .....And extending WES to Salem.
And the Portland Prosper chief just wrote an oped calling for the state and county to heap more money into their fresh Urban Renewal insanity that calls for more mixed use to revive Portland. toe

  5. You'll be laughing out the other side of your mouths when Homer Williams' fleet of ferries is bringing in the masses from the TIF financed remote parking areas right to the doors of Prosper Portland Park.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
