Have a great weekend

  1. In 1974, when I was in grad school at UC Berkeley, Greg Kihn was a fixture around town. He used to hang out at Rather Ripped Records (on Hearst at the West Gate) and would often be seen busking on the Sproul Hall steps. He was also a fixture at Tuesday "local talent night" at Hinterland...along with Earthquake, Jonathan Richmond & the Modern Lovers and the Tubes.

The keyboard player, Gary Phillips, paid his rent by working at Rather Ripped. I knew him quite well.

    Good times...

    1. Arrrrgggh! "Hinterland" = Winterland; "Richmond" = Richman

  2. Back in the day I was wandering down NW 23rd past Music Millennium and there was Kihn and his band giving a free concert inside the store! I always loved this song and thought it was probably better with the uh uh uh, uh uh uh uh uh hook rather than actual lyrics; less is more in this case. God bless him and let's bless Terry Currier while we are at it!

  3. In the early '80s, a good friend of mine gave me two Greg Kihn albums: Rockihnroll and Kihntinued. I became a fan instantly.

  4. I was today years old when I learned that this wasn’t an early John Mellencamp song … if you listen without seeing the video, it sure sounds close

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
