Getting nowhere fast

City of Portland and Multnomah County officials hammer out details of homeless response.

Portland local government continues to punch itself in the mouth when it comes to addressing the city's related tent camping and drug addiction crises. The city and county's "negotiations" over the dubious "joint homeless office" have devolved into a slugfest. Serena Cruz, who somehow has managed to become the chief operating officer of the county, threw a hissy fit in the conference room a while back, and she's gotten so toxic that the city team apparently no longer wants to breathe the same air as she.

Meanwhile, city commssioner Rene Gonzalez, who wants to be mayor, is raising a stink, and rightfully so, over the fact that the county is still handing out tents, tarps, and drug paraphernalia to the street junkies. But he's up against Cruz and the majority of the county commissioners, led by Jessica Chevy Vega and Moonlight Beason, who think that the current situation would be fine if we just built more public housing projects. And Cruz knows just the guy who can build them.

The squabbling has gotten beyond ridiculous. We need to be merging the city and county, like the big boys do in California. The gridlock is killing livability, not to mention individual people. Am I the only one who thinks this?

  1. Last time they talked about merger, I believe the county did not want anything to do with the debt of the city.

  2. If MultCo & the CoP merge, would everything east of Lockwood & everything north and west of US 30 be ceded to Clackamas & Washington/Columbia Counties respectively? I can imagine these folks don't want anything to do with the CoP.

On the bright side, a merged MultCo/CoP could do away with it's goofy 3-reps-per-district and idiotic RCV schemes that were sops to the SJW/black-bloc/homeless-industrial-complex crowd.

  3. Hard to say who wins that merger, i.e. which organization is the most dysfunctional. You should run a poll.

  4. No you aren't the only one

  5. We should definitely combine MultCo and the City of Portland. Since it mostly made up of the metropolitan area, we could call it Metro.

  6. Monty Python's department of silly walks would be far superior to this clown posse. I think their ultimate plan is to wait till the new street drug that is 20 to 30 times more deadly than Fentanyl becomes widely available.

  7. Look to our southern border. Recall October 7 in Isreal. That is out future, but we wont step up. Everything else is chickenfeed or foolishess.

  8. Serena Cruz is mean, and pouts like a petulant toddler when she doesn’t get her way, and than becomes even more mean. It’s beyond ridiculous that she’s even been allowed to weasel herself into the position she now holds. JVP needs recalled NOW!

  9. The City of Portland will continue to struggle with all its ills as long as County and Metro dilute and dispute. The broth is putrid. Too many and too much. And forever, as usual, nothing's getting done very gradually.
