Election results, updated

It's election night and the results have started to come in. Maxine Dexter won. Bynum stomped Jamie McLeod-Skinner. Apparently Vasquez beat Schmidt. On the Multnomah County board, Singleton came in first, and I guess she will be in a runoff against either Adams or Burke, who are quite close. Mozyrsky and Moyer are neck-and-neck, and I believe that means a runoff between those two. Read, Steiner, and Rayfield are winning the state races. The Portland tax measures are all passing, but the zoo bond is extremely close. In Clackistan, Chair Tootie is losing.

I'll keep posting and updating here for a while tonight. Readers, help me out in the comments, if you will.

UPDATE, 8:50 p.m.: It appears that the zoo bond is going to pass. Surprisingly, it was popular in Washington and Clackamas Counties, while it is just scraping by in Multnomah. There's a political science term paper in there somewhere.

UPDATE, 9:05 p.m.: Adams is 135 votes ahead of Burke for the chance to take on Singleton, who's at just under 40 percent of the votes counted so far. It could be a few days before we know how that one comes out. But "Moonlight" Beason will collect two inflated paychecks into November, apparently. Maybe he'll give some of his windfall to Sister Sushi, currently unemployed.

UPDATE, 10:10 p.m.: Adams’s lead is up to 285.

UPDATE, 11:20 p.m.: I suspect the vote-counters have called it quits for the night. There are still votes out there that have been postmarked but not yet delivered; they'll count when they arrive. Let's sort things out further in the light of day.

UPDATE, 12:20 a.m. Wednesday: Burke has cut the deficit slightly, to 278.

  1. I hope to God this is the last time McSkinner runs for an office. Talk about 3 or is it 4 time loser. You think she will figure it out.

    1. Probably not. Another carpetbagger who thinks political office is their right. Just like the current and past governors.

  2. Vasquez is leading milquetoast Mike

  3. All the families who take their kids to the zoo moved to the suburbs.

    1. Sounds about right. I wish they'd pitch in to clean up the other zoo, in Old Town.

    2. We don't want any more Portland ex-pats in the suburbs! They ruin the local politics. You guys have made your bed, now lie in it.

    3. Or, Multnomah County residents are still stinging from their Q1 homeless tax payment, and looking at Q2 in a month... that is, if they even know they need to pay it and aren't just silently racking up late fees and interest on a huge balance nobody ever told them about...

  4. So, ‘Night of the Living Sam’ lives on huh? It’s kind of pathetic how he doesn’t give up hope of reclaiming past glories. It’s also kind of pathetic that he is probably the best politician that we have left in the whole town.

  5. I'm wondering how Singleton is ahead. Didn't see too much advertising on her part, far more for Sam. While folks think he got stuff done, he was a bully for certain. I worked at the city when he was mayor. But, I suppose Vera was one, too.

    1. Adams and Burke cancelled each other out. Singleton got the status quo vote. But that's only 40 percent. I give her opponent in November a decent shot. It will be a real shame if it's ex-Mayor Creepy.

    2. If there was ever a time when you would have appreciated the opportunity to rank your choices instead of having the spoiler effect elevate a stinker to the runoff, this is it.

  6. Clackamas elections is way behind in reporting (again). Can't blame Sherry Hall this time.

  7. What I find really scary is that 44% of Multnomah County voters went for Schmidt.

On the tax measures, Portland voters have again shown that there isn't a tax they won't vote for. Then, in November, they'll complain about high property taxes.

    1. Thx for posting this from behind the paywall of pity buddy!
Usually can defeat it on the big computer, but I’m lazy?

I held out some hope the zoo might not pass, but, like you, I thought virtually 0 chance on gas, flood, schools etc?

Dropped my ballot last minute at the airport PO loading dock before the ~10-10:30pm ‘big sort’ and it got counted just now!
(Not that 1 vote matters 99.99999999(as infinitum) % of the time with the general public?)

Don’t quite trust Vadim, but voted for him.
I know it’s unpopular on here/this comments section, but I really don’t think Schmidt’s the problem & I’d love to know how many voters were in my same camp; no on all the tax stuff, but ‘it’s not all Schmidt’s fault &, yeah, gross as it is to paint Vasquez as having been a republican in the ‘90s, more just as a product of my age (~40) who didn’t turn into a total reactionary shit head like many a Gen X / born ~or before 1980 nor suburbanite breeder monied mouse ticklers/fondler yuppie scum, but did grow up, work hard and didn’t stay a punk, anyone who was a republican in the 90s is just repellent to me?
That piece of advertising or not?

That said, the Liz warrens & Vazquez of the world I don’t want to kick them out?
Just don’t want them steering the ship in the top positions is all…there are positions for those that wish to atone for having been republicans after Nixon or Reagan…

    2. Back again? Maybe you should write a book or something. Get an editor first though.

  8. I’m always surprised JMS keeps running!

Lady, you’re 0 for 4 and you ain’t getting much media attention nor a book deal like maybe Stacey Abrams did in a much more ‘rigged’ state with a scam governor and Secretary of State arrangement for a democrat to win, give it up!

I know we’re ~New Jersey to Baltimore levels of 1-party-rule rotten borough corrupt n’ all & people pretend otherwise for a Maryland swamp creature/tick to find a vein, but give it up, lady!

I try not to use the term carpetbagger as historically they were the good guys and stinging up the entire planter class & crumpling up the constitution and throwing it in the trash during reconstruction woulda helped us immeasurably as a nation, but ‘if the shoe fits’ for the negative connotation in other applications…

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
