You're made out of gold

Portlanders! It's Tax Day. Have you paid your:

  • Oregon state income tax.
  • Tri-Met self-employment tax.
  • Multnomah County preschool tax.
  • Metro homeless tax.
  • City of Portland business tax.
  • Multnomah County business tax.
  • City of Portland arts tax.
  • Oregon income estimated tax.
  • City of Portland and Multnomah County business estimated tax.

Or in the words of the late Jimi Hendrix, "Have you ever been experienced? Well, I have."

  1. And the Beatles said:
"There's one for you, nineteen for me

Should five percent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
(If you drive a car) I'll tax the street
(If you try to sit, sit) I'll tax your seat
(If you get too cold, cold) I'll tax the heat
(If you take a walk, walk) I'll tax your feet
    'Cause I'm the taxman
    Yeah, I'm the taxman

    1. Oops, I forgot those two. I pay them through withholding (at the same time that my employer pays the Tri-Met payroll tax).

  5. What's so frustrating to many of us is that many of the problems Multnomah County is facing are so easily fixable if those in elected office exhibited just a modicum of common sense and courage. The community deserves better for the resources provided to our elected officials to steward. Instead, many of those we elect are not up to the task, and would never be capable of performing in a non-government job (to quote Dan Akroyd "I've worked in the private sector. They expect results."). We are not a serious people, and Portland deserves so much better.

  6. We've mostly done it to ourselves, voting for one new tax after another thinking that somebody else will bear the tax burden. Plus the false idea that only government can make everything all better.

    1. That goes for most of Portland and Oregon's issues and why it won't be fixed anytime soon. Easier to live with cognitive dissonance than a hard look in the mirror.

  7. All this taxation supports top notch Democrat governance. So we're told during every election.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
