Not to be out-pouted
I see that Jeff Murkily has joined Earl the Pearl in voting against aid to Israel. The vote in the Senate for the aid package was 79 to 18. Only one other Democrat joined our guy in voting no.
I get that Portland and Oregon are blue territories, but it seems like we're drifting way out left, further even than California. I don't think that's what most people around here want. It's certainly not where I think we ought to be going.
Portland has always been left of California. Actually, until Seattle went rogue, Portland was the poster boy for “progressive”.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking back to the days of Saint Hatfield, Packwood, Atiyeh, those sorts.
DeleteWow, really?! I’m a former student and big fan of yours. Also a regular reader who appreciates your sharp eyes and equally sharp analysis. But you’ve lost me if you think this kind of continued military aid to Israel is the least bit productive.
DeleteIt's not productive at all! Simultaneously giving billions in military aid to Israel and billions to Gaza for humanitarian aid?! It's absolutely Orwellian.
DeleteJack, this is such a bad take. I think I'm going to have to stop following you. Are you paying any attention to what's happening in Gaza? Babies are starving to death. Hospitals and homes have been obliterated. Millions have been displaced permanently because they have no homes left to go back to.
Obligatory disclaimer: No, I do not approve of terrorism by Hamas. And for the record, a vote against military aid to Israel is not antisemitic, no matter what one Jewish senator says about another Jewish senator.
I'm with the 46 other Democrats. Sorry.
DeleteI'm okay with it.
ReplyDeleteHow did our Sens vote on the FISA re-authorization though?
Merk the jerk
ReplyDeleteThis dude and Bluemanure are both disgraceful.
ReplyDeleteYes we need more mass graves (397 so far in the latest find) where many look to be buried alive or stripped naked and hands tied behind their backs. Collective punishment is the one of the pillars of a decent and caring peoples.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad only three senators have the decency and courage to do the right thing.
DeletePfft. 397? Remember the mass murder by the Isrealis early on? You remember in October? You know, when the Jews unleashed all of those missles on those poor enslaved palis at al-Ahli Hospital? Pallywood is strong in you. You digust me
ReplyDeleteI think you might have failed to notice the sarcasm in the above post.
DeletePerhaps. I'd rather you be right and I obtuse. Thank you
DeleteHe voted no alongside a bunch of Republicans and that makes him even further…left? How bent is that horseshoe exactly?
ReplyDeleteGood point. Thank you!
DeleteMerkleys one of the scalps the Israel lobby probably won’t get.
ReplyDeleteIt’s going to pass by huge margins, anyway, but if a Merkley no vote gives protestors less reason to primary him or create chaos here, I’d say it’s a fine move?
Israel is somehow lower & worse than South Africa was; at least the worst of the Afrikaner whites needed the indigjnous labor force & lived among them?
If you’re a cold blooded realist, but on the spectrum of wanting something besides serfdom or slavery, “I’ll take one capitalist exploitation, good sir, over imported labor snd genocide’ from the perspective of what’s about to happen to the Palestinians?
Idk, I’m in favor of just normalizing relations Iran for oil, let them have a nuke if they can develop one, condition any aid to Israel on them brokering obtaining precious metals from Russia & giving up names of their scumbags that train our police to be more of an occupying force/more militarized & make life here worse generally and get those metals that we don’t have / can’t easily get otherwise, they get more the 0 dollars and white population from ~Russia that they want?
That’s the realist side of me?
All you boomer total frauds (college professors coasting on sinecures, administrators & hippies) can fuck right off.
At best we get a bum deal from supporting the cause even in imperial realist mindset and no one under age 40 believes in the Israel project.
That said, it’s going to be bad, much as all foreign policy is, with little public input unlike more local issues? *shrug*
I'm with you on everything, but stop the boomer bashing. We've done more good for the planet and society than any subsequent generation, with your trophies labels and victimhood.
DeleteAnd, who takes comments seriously from people who only identify as "Anonymous"? I miss Jack's old blog.
