Take my wife, or else
I see that Governor Kohoutek's entire "executive team" has quit. Apparently a year and a quarter was more than they could take working for her. I am not surprised. I have had exactly one face-to-face encounter with the Guv, back when she was in the state House, and after that, I swore never to have another. And never to vote for her for anything.
They say the current walkouts are because Kohoutek is insisting that her wife, Aimee Wilson (left), is to be treated as the second in command. It's a familiar story. John Kitzhaber tried this when he was governor, with his infamous paramour Cylvia Hayes, and it ended his career. Now it's I, Tina's turn to inflict her domestic partner (in this case, her spouse) on the staff and the taxpayers as if the partner were somehow elected, too. There's going to be an Office of the First Lady, with minions to run errands and get bossed around. It's downright Hillary-esque.
There could be some entertainment value here, but to me the whole thing is pretty painful to look at. As for the hacks and flacks who walked, they'll pop up somewhere else in a bureaucracy before long. I'm just glad I'm not them.
I wouldn’t have a problem with the first spouse of Oregon’s Governor having a few charity type vanity projects (and many have), but this seems ridiculous and a recipe for disaster. I too have met Kotek in person (three times, twice when she was a rep, and once as gov) and I always find her pompous and off putting…couldn’t imagine working for her.
ReplyDeleteSeems like this was well known and democrats still voted her in as the Governor.
ReplyDeleteWhich is why Portland and Oregon is hopelessly doomed to only being worse for years to come. Every bottom of the barrel Democrat is preferable.
Delete“you’re judged by the company you keep”
DeleteThe hacks and flacks are beings replaced with another round of hacks and flacks. The Dems have a very deep bench.
ReplyDeleteUntil the Oregon Republican Party finds someone that doesn't talk like a cultist sycophant and actually carries some moderate policy goals that moderate Democrats can stomach, this is what we're going to get.
ReplyDeleteWont matter. Brainwashing keeps everybody in line, using fear as the primary tool.
DeleteSome Dems believe their alternate universe is normal
DeleteAnother "I'd vote for a Republican as long as they embraced left of center positions" liar. No, you wouldn't either as long as they had an R behind their name.
DeleteThe head of a law firm doesn’t give his/her wife an office. The head of a bank doesn’t. In no other job or role does the ceo seem to think the wife is entitled to some formal role. It’s insane.
ReplyDeletethat's a great point. wish a reporter would ask Kotek about that.
DeleteOne of my aunts lived with her partner for decades, back when it wasn't just a thing. She was tough as nails and very pragmatic, so it's not about a person's orientation. It's all about this misguided sense of privilege. If my Aunt Gin was the Gov, she would have kicked ass.
ReplyDeleteIt is bizarre on so many levels, but the tell that the entire staff quit due to the 1st person's nonsense makes it otherworldly ridiculous. Priorities, priorities, get the nominally competent people trying to do the business of the state out and get the unelected 1st person an office and a staff. Yeesh!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Waldo figured that her wife could bring in more under the dome than she could, had she stayed at her previous job at the Safeway deli. I’ll miss her there, as she could make a wicked tuna salad sandwich.
ReplyDeleteWhat significance will Aimee's duties have, to justify a $143k staffer? And what does that staffers job description look like?
ReplyDeleteWhat will the total tab be on the first ladies junket to Utah, with her entourage? (See WW online article published today)
ReplyDeleteWhat a shock. A social worker suffering from mental illness. Like a bartender with a drinking problem.
