Look who voted no
If you're like me, you're pretty ticked off that two state senators from northeast Portland, Lew Frederick and Michael Dembrow, both voted against the bill that would repeal the worst parts of Oregon's disastrous drug decriminalization law, Measure 110.
These two guys have been going back and forth to Salem for too long. Both need to be primaried and removed as soon as possible.
“I remain concerned that it is taking us down a potentially dangerous path if it doesn’t work out in the way that it’s hoped for,” said Sen. Michael Dembrow, D-Portland.
The penalties for drug possession would take effect in September. But Dembrow and Sen. Floyd Prozanski, D-Eugene, warned that the existing shortage of public defenders will only grow worse with the increased caseloads.
“In its current form, there are just too many question marks,” Dembrow said.
Fortunately, Dembrow and Frederick were outvoted, and now the bill to start undoing Measure 110's profound damage is on the governor's desk.
You would expect extreme arrogance from the Portland-area far-left Democrats in the House, like Farrah Chaichi, Travis Nelson, Khanh Pham, and Mark Gamba. But Frederick and Dembrow, too? Wow. Let's hope the voters around here wake up and show these birds the door soon.
And as we enter marks next to their names, let's not forget that the Oregon ACLU was down there eggging them on. That outfit has been fighting tooth and nail for weeks to keep Measure 110 on the books as is. I used to think highly of that organization, but not after this.
It’s intellectually bankrupt to support pubic use of hard drugs. Maybe if the activity’s outside their home they’d change their mind
ReplyDeleteIs pubic use a variation of boofing?
DeleteAs if the original Measure 110 didn't take us down a "potentially dangerous path," and we have seen those dangers, and deaths resulting from it. The enabling in this community is mind-boggling.
ReplyDeletethe photo would have been better if they were poking their faces through the cutout holes behind them.
ReplyDeleteThe ACLU hasn’t been respectable for decades.
ReplyDeleteI supported the original mission. But, it’s become a front for an anti establishment ideology
DeleteThe original mission was a communist apologist and front group.
DeleteI do miss the days when they were civil rights advocates, and supported those rights even when exercised by the most abhorrent people.
Hey look, the developers got a pile of money>. Oregon House passes Gov. Tina Kotek’s housing bill, approves $369 million
ReplyDeleteRepealing 110 is good, but it looks like there is not much teeth in the bill. And the Senate still needs to vote on it, so there could be even more watering down.
ReplyDeleteNo, I believe it's through both Houses now. No thanks to these two.
DeleteDembrow is leaving office after this term. He's been arrogant and deaf to voter concerns for a while now.
