Bob has the door plug
Yesterday I wondered aloud about the door plug that blew out of that new Alaska Airlines MAX jet the other night. Apparently a Portland schoolteacher by the name of Bob has found it in his backyard. Meanwhile, a couple of other folks found cell phones that had flown out of the plane. "Earlier she said 2 cell phones were found, one in a backyard and one along the side of the road. One of the cell phones was in airplane mode and open to an Alaska Air baggage claim for Flight 1282."
Here's the guy who found one of the phones, Sean Bates, along Barnes Road, with a couple of federal investigators.
It's really a miracle that nobody died.
Oh, and the cockpit voice recorder erased everything because somebody forgot to turn it off.
Way to go, Boeing. And especially, way to go, Alaska Airlines! First a crazed pilot of yours tries to crash one of your flights over Portland, and now this. America in the 21st Century epitomized perfectly.
UPDATE, Monday, 10:40 a.m.: Here's Sean Bates's full story, including a link to his video.
Who manufactured the phone case? I can't drop my phone from the kitchen counter to the floor without it getting banged up. You're telling me a phone dropped THREE MILES and didn't get a scratch? I need more details.
ReplyDeleteOh! And the good folks at Alaska and the NTSB would like you to know there was only cosmetic damage to the plane and nothing structural, which means it'll be back in service before you know it. Think I'll bookmark the tail number and see how long it takes for that tail number to be carrying passengers again. Perhaps by the end of the month?
DeleteApparently the plane had been having issues with loss of pressure in previous flights. So I guess the policy was keep flying it until the problem solves itself.
ReplyDeleteBut not over the ocean. Sheesh!
DeleteNot sure why any blame should fall on the pilots for not turning off the data recorders. I’m not sure they have that capability.
ReplyDeleteWhy in god's name do they erase after two hours? More greatness from Boeing.
DeleteFAA requirement is 2 hours minimum. Europe only expanded it to 25 hours in 2021 and FAA had promulgated rule making to increase to 25 hours last year but as it’s an administrative rule it isn’t a snap of the fingers and it is done.
DeleteWhat, only a couple of federal investigators and the road wasn't closed for many hours?? Can we assume the others were yet to arrive?
