In the State of Denmark
An alert reader sends along a link to this, which he thinks "should be a WAY bigger story." I agree. An on-duty federal drug agent allegedly sped his pickup truck through a stop sign in a residential neighborhood in Salem on March 28, hitting and killing a bicyclist. The cops are acting squirrelly in the extreme about the whole thing, and the neighbors who witnessed the crash are scared to speak up because, hey, it's the DEA, and those boys play rough.
The victim was Marganne Allen, a state employee on her way home from work. She was 53 years old.
It's well over a month and a half later, and the cops are still "investigating." Let's hope the Salem Reporter, and its reporter, Ardeshir Tabrizian, keep the heat on so that some semblance of justice is done. That's not necessarily the norm in Oregon's capital.
The driver in last month’s fatal crash was cited in Lane County on April 24, 2020 for driving at 72 mph in a 55-mph section of Highway 99 near Eugene. He pleaded no contest and was fined $85.
ReplyDeleteFatalities demand names. Not just the protected coverage of What, Why, etc.
ReplyDeleteI believe the undercover narc is identified as Samuel Landis.
DeleteI've had to recalibrate my outrage meter in the last several years. It takes a bit for the needle to move in 2023. This story has it buzzing. From failing to administer aid to removing what I assume is the narc's "war bag", to sending crime scene photos to unauthorized persons, to failing to notify Marganne Allen's family for four hours...I don't know where to begin. This story should be headline news from Astoria to Ashland. An absolute abdication of responsibility and abuse of power. I hope this thing gets picked up by SOMEONE and these folks get held accountable. Beyond just a felony conviction, certifications need to be stripped.
ReplyDeleteWhat in God's name are we allowing to happen?
Maybe alert the national media?
Delete“War bag”? Good grief.
Deletenot to validate any of the excesses of the defund / BLM movement, but the animating spirit is that law enforcement cannot itself be above the law. Sadly, that is how they act. some PI lawyer is going to sue the pants off all these people, the taxpayers will pay the settlement, and we'll go back to business as usual.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he wasn't drug tested. Disgusting.
ReplyDeleteI wish that young South Salem High School reporter that did the BLM coverage in 2020, Eddy Binford-Ross, would go after this story.
ReplyDeleteThe speeding driver of 2020 was a Samuel Tucker Landis, born in 1994. The agent indicted last week for criminally negligent homicide is a Samuel Troy Landis, born in 1985, a different person.
