The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
I saw the Ike & Tina Revue a couple of times when I was in high school. They always got booked at the Lakewood (, CA) rec center at Del Valle Park (aka "the Canteen")...pre "Proud Mary"... The opening act was the "Neo-pop Ensemble" (a local covers band that did complex re-arranged covers...it was the late 1960s).
ReplyDeleteThe audience was exclusively white kids. A lot of them didn't get it. By the time the Revue cranked up "Nutbush City Limits", everybody got it.
A couple of years later, I heard Sly & the Family Stone on the radio..big time. They got it.
Soooo good!💕
