Loving them to death
Here's a good followup to that video I posted the other day about the misguided enabling of the daily drug routines of so many tent dwellers on the streets of Portland. The homeless woman who spoke the truth is named Wendy. She's still there.
The city's response is pretty revealing. Since May – that's eight months ago – the city's "outreach" efforts have gotten a grand total of 10 street people into drug treatment. Not a typo. Ten.
$3.5 million divided by 50 outreach workers is $70 thousand…Maybe the city should stop hiring outreach workers and just hand over all the money directly to the homeless folks. The “outcomes” might be better.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but they've "engaged" 416 people since May, which is over 50 a month, or almost two a day! Success is just around the corner.
ReplyDeleteThis video really struck a nerve among the enablers in Portland. See the editorial today at Oregonlive from the Blanchet head
ReplyDeleteIt costs money to virtue signal... And hand wringing even more so... How dare you question the great and mighty Koz.
