Aw, shucks

I was really looking forward to this one. It so perfectly sums up Oregon these days.

  1. Psilocybin treatment looks very promising to me. This is nothing like decriminalizing hard drugs without requiring or providing treatment.

    1. You can’t just introduce people to shrooms who might have never done any kinds of drugs before and expect the same results across the board. Just ridiculous.

I didn’t sign the petition when it was being pushed a few years back. I had some young lady at Whole Foods trying to explain to me how great they were and why I should sign. What she didn’t know is that I was an expert on them forty years prior, and was growing them.

I let her finish her spiel and said no thanks. Those kinds of drugs never helped anyone, save for maybe late-stage cancer patients.

    2. You are an expert of sorts, but doctors doing clinical trials have found good results in treating depression. For example: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/psychiatry/research/psychedelics-research.html. But I agree with Jack that the OHA is all but certain to short-stroke this thing into the rough.

    3. Treating depression with mushrooms is like trying to treat migraine headaches with a hammer. Ridiculous. Psychedelics are a life-changing experience, and from my vast experience not always for the better. I saw many people I knew end up messed up for years because of those things. And today’s society is filled with a lot more built-in anxiety and stress that you can’t know how someone would react.

Maybe if they were treated on some isolated island paradise somewhere where their mind was free of the craziness of modern life. Maybe, but still it is a crapshoot.

    4. I still think I have to go with the conclusions of medical professionals conducting controlled, peer-reviewed trials over the acquired wisdom of "Anonymous" (although I understand because I used to have a user name, and the platform somehow stopped recognizing me) on Jack Bog's Blog. It seems that dosage, set and setting, and the guidance of mental health therapists do produce positive results that are durable for up to a year for many patients. It doesn't seem at all ridiculous to me.

  2. Don't worry, the OHA will find a way top screw it up royally. But first, "equity" talk!

  3. I tuned in tonight but I was a day late. But after some strong shroom tea I watched anyway. Far out man......my room was breathing and I watched pink elephants dancing on the blank screen.

  4. Not sure how the treatment matters to anyone not seeking it out in the way it is legally prescribed. Visions of tripping drug users running through the neighborhoods is pure 1950's scare mongering. Mind your business. Oh wait, in today's America, my business is your business, but not vice versa.

The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
