Zero
... is the number of minutes of the Beijing Olympics I have watched so far.
The platform used for this blog is awfully wonky when it comes to comments. It may work for you, it may not. It's a Google thing, and beyond my control. Apologies if you can't get through. You can email me a comment at jackbogsblog@comcast.net, and if it's appropriate, I can post it here for you.
I briefly considered not watching the winter games for political reasons, but since they usually bore me to tears (whether or not they are being hosted by totalitarian countries) the act of actually "boycotting" seemed like too much effort. I think I've watched 15min so far.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it reminds me of when I was in high school. I had a phony draft card I used as ID. One day at an anti-war rally I burned it in protest.
DeleteThe men's snowboard halfpipe final was one of the most astounding displays of athletic talent and daring I have seen. Glad I caught it. Ski racing is compelling as well. The Olympics are a corrupt, broken institution, and China is a totalitarian nightmare, but the competition between gifted, highly trained athletes is fun to watch, regardless of the forum. If I thought ignoring it made the smallest scintilla of a difference, I'd boycott, but I'm happy to watch over the air, for free.
ReplyDeleteThe Olympics are evil & the snow is fake this year. Hope cities effectively resist them (the people that shove them down our throats as nationalist display) or sentence them & their developer weasel friends to death by impalement on the road into town as the sport, but QFT, it's amazing what they can do I don't care about the politics & feel bad for whatever city gets scammed into hosting them, but being that good at something has to count for something?
DeleteFun fact, my Gym teacher here was a hi-jump medalist? Nice person.
Caught a little ski jump & skating in passing? *shrug*
I don't really know how to judge what I'm looking at, but neat/cool?
You get the olympics you deserve.
