"Let them fight" attitude lands cops in court

I see that the estate of the right-wing "protester" who was shot dead on a downtown Portland street last summer is suing the City of Portland for lazy police work in letting it happen. I doubt that the suit will get anywhere. Can you imagine if the city could be held liable every time someone is harmed by the worthlessness of the police force? They'd have to auction off City Hall to pay all the judgments.
