Brutal
The U.S. Open tennis tournament heartlessly put Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys up against each other in the first round. Both played better than they had in quite a while. It was a shame that one of them had to lose. That someone was Keys, 7-9 in a third-set tiebreaker.
The two are Americans, and they're friends with each other. For Keys (right), who hasn't had a good year, the frustration must be enormous. She played so well, but here she is, out of it by Monday night. It was going to be either she or Stephens in that painful position.
Of course, it was epic for us fans. Those two can play.
