Free at last! Sort of.
The Covid vaccine does wonders for one's peace of mind. As I go about daily life, I'm no longer frightened that every person I see is shedding a bug that is going to kill me.
But we have not reached the end of the ordeal. All the little kids are still running around unvaxxed. As are lots of adults who have decided not to get the shots. Plus, even among the inoculated, breakthough infections are a possibility.
And while the state government dithers about what to open and what to keep closed, the numbers of people in hospitals, intensive care units, and morgues aren't falling in a significant way:
Yes, the numbers of new positive tests are decreasing. Compared to where we were a year ago, we're in heaven. But it's a heaven where there's still reason to be cautious.
